Has anybody else received this in there ask box? i am a bit dubious about it.

the glass being full or empty depends if we are taking away from the glass or adding to it. that’s the one i came up with myself while thinking about this question a few years ago. it seems the obvious simple one in my mind. where as a lot of my friends favour the view that it is half empty. then they go on about “oh listen to Mr. Logical” blah blah blah… when i give my answer o.O

The universe may have been born spinning, according to new findings on the symmetry of the cosmos

A new study found an excess of counter-clockwise rotating or “left-handed” spiral galaxies like this one, compared to their right-handed counterparts. This provides evidence that the universe does not have mirror symmetry.

To test for the assumed mirror symmetry, physics professor Michael Longo and a team of five undergraduates catalogued the rotation direction of tens of thousands of spiral galaxies photographed in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey.

The mirror image of a counter-clockwise rotating galaxy would have clockwise rotation. More of one type than the other would be evidence for a breakdown of symmetry, or, in physics speak, a parity violation on cosmic scales, Longo said.

The researchers found evidence that galaxies tend to rotate in a preferred direction. They uncovered an excess of left-handed, or counter-clockwise rotating,spirals in the part of the sky toward the north pole of the Milky Way. The effect extended beyond 600 million light years away.

“The excess is small, about 7 percent, but the chance that it could be a cosmic accident is something like one in a million,” Longo said. “These results are extremely important because they appear to contradict the almost universally accepted notion that on sufficiently large scales the universe is isotropic, with no special direction.”

The work provides new insights about the shape of the Big Bang. A symmetric and isotropic universe would have begun with a spherically symmetric explosion shaped like a basketball. If the universe was born rotating, like a spinning basketball, Longo said, it would have a preferred axis, and galaxies would have retained that initial motion.

Is the universe still spinning?

“It could be,” Longo said. “I think this result suggests that it is.”

Because the Sloan telescope is in New Mexico, the data the researchers analyzed for their recent paper came mostly from the northern hemisphere of the sky. An important test of the findings will be to see if there is an excess of right-handed spiral galaxies in the southern hemisphere. This research is currently underway.

What is your religion or if not in one, your beliefs?

I hold no religious belief’s. But as for my own belief’s most people would happily say I’m an Atheist. They are correct to an extent because “yes, i do not believe in you’re God or his God or even her God” or something along those lines is what you would most likely hear me say when asked, but the proof is in the pudding. simply because i say i don’t believe in you’re/his/her definition of God does not necessarily mean i hold no beliefs in a higher power.

It would be against my human nature to not believe or even in its lowest form “hope” that there is a higher power (not necessarily one that takes the form of a man with a beard or a man with a sword though). I would like to think of it as a collective of something or other maybe a consciousness or pure energy, perhaps even a machine?! But We would not have all this trouble if we never invented two concepts, “beginning and end”. Were so stuck in those two reality’s that it is apparently impossible for something to be infinite and have no “creator”.

That said, I’m always very taken by “the next best thing” which makes me wonder why Religion never sunk its teeth into me… even for a day or two? Although flitting between interests does have it’s drawbacks, for example: My beliefs are a bit hazy, despite how this answer may sound im rambling to hide the fact that i can not give you a straight answer, I’m even willing to turn around and say to you “Why should i have any beliefs at all? what purpose would they have in my life?” You could say I believe in science, but the word believe sits too closely upon religions throne for me to use it in this case. For me, science just “Is”. There is no need for me to believe in it. Science is a lot more omnipotent then God after all… wouldn’t you say so?

My Blog is about the discovery of my belief’s and I could say that in a way you are helping the process!

Back to you’re question though. I suppose i should give you a straight answer.

There is one thing i “believe in” and hold “hope” for. And that is that we are not alone in this universe and there is A lot more going on then we know about. The same way that Earth is tiny compared to our solar system, galaxy, universe and so on… The sense’s we are born with are just as small in comparison. There is also a story i once read which conveys the idea that certain level’s of species can become God’s or Godlike and this is what creates universe’s and living organism’s etc etc… through technology, just not as we know it. you can find it on my blog. its called ” a conversation with God”. And to be honest, it’s a lot more easier to accept and has more rational integrity then Christianity, Catholicism or Mormonism put together. All though i give credit to the Mormons for there views on space travellers. 

And last but not least, I do not “believe” religion is detrimental too society… I “know” it is.

Pantheism

 

Pantheism is the view that the Universe (Nature) and God are identical. Pantheists thus do not believe in a personal,anthropomorphic or creator god. The word derives from the Ancient Greek: πᾶν (pan) meaning “all” and θεός (theos) meaning “God”. As such, Pantheism denotes the idea that “God” is best seen as a process of relating to the Universe. Although there are divergences within Pantheism, the central ideas found in almost all versions are the Cosmos as an all-encompassing unity and the sacredness of Nature.

The symbol for Pantheism is the spiral as seen on the curves of the nautilus shell, or the spiral arms of a galaxy, showing the link between the vast (thousands of light years) and the tiny. The spiral represents a variety of things, it means evolution, eternity, spirituality, growth.

In Pantheism God is identical with the universe, but in Panentheism God is infinitely more than the universe.

I found this quite interesting. A fellow tumblr recently spoke about this so I thought I would look into it and share it with you all.
